New ideas!

Man so my craft fair earlier this month gave me a BUNCH of new ideas to add to my arsenal of items in my shop.  I am so excited to start working on them!  Unfortunately they won't be up on my shop until the new year, but still VERY exciting.  One of them I am definitely making one for myself.  I had someone ask for clip on earrings, so I am going to start adding those to my shop and possibly have the option of getting them as regular earrings too.

I also got new ideas for gift boxes for next year.  I am so very excited!  I will be posting blogs up on the making of the new items when I start making them so you can see them before they are put up on my shop.

Restoring Earth at the Field Museum in Chicago

Wow!  I went to this exhibit this weekend to check out the new Restoring Earth exhibit that I worked on. It is so cool.  You get to learn how they are helping save the rainforests and there is all of the different species of birds and moths and butterflies... and there is this big interactive part where you answer 5 questions and based on that you get this little collection that goes up on the big screen.  And then you can stand in the beam of light in front of the big screen and interactively go through all of the different collections that people have made.  ALSO they email it to you so you can customize it and see all of the other collections.

Heres a link to all of the collections:

If you see butterflies, moths or the iPod and speaker.. those are mine.  :D

First Craft Fair

So I had my very first craft fair experience this past weekend.  It was a  lot of fun.  Kind of stressful at times, but overall great!  I learned a few things on what to take next time.  And also got some ideas for new items for my shop.  I shared a booth with my mom and she did very well!  I was so happy for her.  I really wanted her to do well because after the craft fair last year she was so down, it broke my heart.  She said for my first one, I did very well too, which I didn't think I did since I had a lot of stuff still on my table when I left, but I did make a bit of green, so thats cool.  :)  I can at least afford groceries this week now. YAY!

I am going to be posting up a couple of new Christmas items this week, once I get photos taken of them.  I am very excited to see them sell.  They are too cute not to.

Saving the planet for the holidays!!!

I just put up a new tutorial on my "Tutorial" page.  This is will help you save the planet a little this holiday season and even for those birthdays you have throughout the year.

It shows you how to take old unwanted jewelry boxes and make them adorable to keep reusing so you dont have to waste money and paper with gift wrapping that just gets tossed after the gift is open!

Trying something new

So this weekend we were cleaning the house and my boyfriend found some old pillow cases we didn't use anymore.  He was going to throw them out, but I thought "Hmm, I could use these to practice some sewing with"  So I took them to my sewing table and I ended up with this:

There are some rough spots on it, but I am not planning on selling it since I made it for me.  I think its pretty cute.  What do you think???

A new vision

So as I was sitting down to my craft table today, I started to pull out some buttons and came up with a new idea for some necklaces.  They are sorta in between the necklaces I have right now.  Very similar to my brooches, but in necklace form.  I like then a lot.  Here is kinda the way they evolved.

So I start out looking for my boxes of buttons and I come up with what I like to call a cluster of matching buttons.

After I get some matching pairs, I decide which ones I like the best.  Today I went with two different ones, the green/aqua color ones and the blue ones.

Once I get those I glue them to some felt so they have a nice backing on them.

And after that I cut them out and put the necklace back on them.  (Since I made these I decided to change it up from the ones pictures to have the backing part inside the felt.

Then I add a chain and taa daa a new star is born!

Let me know what you think?  Are these gonna be a good seller?  Or a flop do you think?

Glad for the plaid

So my newest creation so far has been a "come see" item on my Facebook since I posted it.

I thought I would share it on here.

My new Brown plaid zipper clutch!

So this clutch was my very first with an inside zipper pocket and I must say it came out great.  Once I get my actual sale photos taken, I will post those so you can see what the inside looks like and all its wonderfulness.  I thought I would share now.

My next one I will post a tutorial on I think.  It won't be a plaid one I don't think, but if I end up having enough zippers, it might.

The start of a beautiful friendship

Hello world!

I am Angela Lee.  I started making jewelry and accessories out of buttons and zippers earlier this year.

It started when I made a visit to one of my favorite overpriced stores in the mall.  I saw a bunch of their necklaces and hair accessories and thought to myself, "oh these are so cute!"  then I would look at the price tags and think, "oooh, maybe not so cute." And put them back.  But as I was walking out of the store, I thought, "Hey!  I could make that same look with buttons and ribbon."  So I went home and dug out some buttons and some ribbons and put together my first necklace.

And so it began.  I started making a new necklace every weekend as a way to unwind from my day job.  Then something sad happened.  I lost my day job.  So I was very stressed and needed a way to unwind when I was stressed out too much from my current situation.  So I went to my crafting table.  I started making a lot of different stuff.  And that is when I started incorporating zippers into my designs as well.

I felt like I was all over the place with my ideas.  I felt like I needed to stick to one thing and that was it, but honestly, I have.  Fasteners.

So come with me on this journey and learn how I come up with my designs.  I am going to be sharing some tips and tricks on how I make my stuff.
